<stepDesc>Forest polygons from CCAP were selected and used in the eCognition software (version 10.1, Trimble, Inc.) as the basis to generate image objects to classify forested areas into several forest types. Reflectance values from Landsat 1, Landsat 2, and Landsat 3 were used as inputs to the eCognition multiresolution segmentation algorithm which generated the the image objects. The resulting image objects were subsequently classified using the Random Tree classification method (also from eCognotion).
The classified forest polygons were then combined with the non-forest features from CCAP to produce the final landcover data set. This data included the original C_CAP, non-forest polygons and the reclassified forest polygons.</stepDesc>
